We are delighted by your interest in our website or app. Data protection is of paramount importance to TerraCollect. In principle, using the website and app is possible without providing any personal data. However, if a data subject wishes to use special services offered by TerraCollect via our website or app, the processing of personal data may become necessary.
The following information provides a simple overview of what happens to your personal data when you visit our website or use our apps (Android and iOS). Personal data is any data that can be used to personally identify you.
Who is responsible for data collection? Data processing is carried out by the operator of the website and the apps. You can find their contact details in the legal notice.
How do we collect your data? Firstly, your data is collected when you provide it to us. This includes, for example, data you enter during registration (first name, last name, email address). Other data is collected automatically or with your consent by our IT systems when you visit the website or use the apps. This is primarily technical data (e.g., internet browser, operating system, IP address, or time of access) as well as usage data (app performance).
The operators take the protection of your personal data very seriously. We treat your personal data confidentially and in accordance with the statutory data protection regulations and this privacy policy.
The responsible body for data processing is:
Noah Lewark
Hermann-Wandersleb-Ring 10
53121 Bonn
Germany
Email: info@terracollect.com
Website: www.terracollect.com
Unless a more specific retention period is stated within this privacy policy, your personal data will remain with us until the purpose for processing the data no longer applies. If you submit a legitimate request for erasure or withdraw your consent to data processing, your data will be deleted, provided we have no other legally permissible grounds for storing it (e.g., tax or commercial law retention periods).
What are cookies and similar technologies? Our website and apps use "cookies" or similar device-specific technologies. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device. In our mobile apps (Android and iOS), we use technologies similar to device IDs instead of traditional cookies to provide features and analyze usage.
Android: This involves the use of, for example, so-called Instance IDs or the Google Advertising ID (GAID).
iOS (Apple): Here we use technologies such as the Identifier for Vendor (IDFV) or, if you expressly consent, the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA).
Why do we use these technologies?
Technically necessary technologies: These are essential for the app/website to function (e.g., for secure login or saving login status). Legal consent is not required for these (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR).
Analytics and tracking technologies: These help us understand how our app is used (e.g., through Google Analytics) in order to find errors and improve the user experience. This data is only collected if you give us your explicit consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR).
You can withdraw your consent at any time by email.
You can register in our app or on the website to use additional features. We only use the data you enter for the purpose of providing the respective offer or service.
The data processed is the data already stored in your Google profile:
First name
Last name
E-mail address
URL to your Google profile picture
Display name
Legal basis: The processing is based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR (performance of a contract or pre-contractual measures) and Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR (consent).
We host our website with Vercel Inc., 340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA. When you visit our website, your data is processed on Vercel's servers. This may involve the transfer of data to the USA. We use Vercel for the purpose of providing our online services securely and efficiently (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR). Further information: https://vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy
We use services from "Google Firebase" for our apps (iOS/Android) and website. Google Firebase is a service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google Firebase includes various functions:
We use this service to enable you to register and manage your user account. Your registration data (email address, encrypted password or authentication token) will be processed in this process.
We use these services to securely store your profile information (name, email) and any files you may have uploaded, and to synchronize them between your devices. The data is stored in Google's cloud.
We use Google Analytics to analyze the use of our app and website and to improve our services. This involves collecting information about usage, your IP address (anonymized), and device-specific data (e.g., device model, OS version, iOS IDFA / Android GAID). Legal basis: This processing is based solely on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR). On iOS devices, this consent is obtained via the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
These services help us monitor the stability and performance of the app. They collect technical data such as app start time, network requests, and crash reports. This data is pseudonymized and used for technical optimization. Legal basis: Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in the error-free functioning of the app).
Notice regarding data transfer to the USA: Services from Google and Vercel may transfer data to the USA. These companies are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF). The DPF is an agreement that ensures compliance with European data protection standards in the USA.
Our app offers you the function to save, export, or back up your collected data (e.g., images and information about minerals, fossils, or rocks) to your personal "Google Drive" account.
What data is processed and how do we access it? If you wish to use this feature, authorize our app via your Google account. The app creates a dedicated, app-specific folder in your Google Drive during the first backup. For security reasons, our app has access only to this specific folder and the files it creates within it. We have no read or write access to your other private files, documents, or other folders in your Google Drive.
Purpose and storage: The transfer is solely for data backup purposes in your own cloud. The use of the Google Drive API and the transfer of the received information are governed by the Google API Services User Data Policy , including the requirements for limited use.
Legal basis and revocation: The linking and data transfer is based on your explicit consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR). You can revoke these access rights at any time in the security settings of your Google account.
We use Vercel Analytics on our website to measure performance (so-called "Web Vitals"). The data is collected anonymously and cannot be used to identify you personally. The legal basis for this is our legitimate interest in optimizing the website (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR).
You have the right at any time:
To obtain information about your data stored with us (Art. 15 GDPR).
To request the correction of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR).
To request the deletion of your data (Art. 17 GDPR).
to request restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR).
To request data portability (Art. 20 GDPR).
You may revoke your consent at any time for the future (Art. 7 para. 3 GDPR).
to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).
